About Barcode
What the site does and how.
Barcode explains every common barcode symbology, generates them as SVG or PNG, reads them from your camera or a photo, and decodes the numbers they carry: check digits, GS1 prefixes, UPC-E expansion, ISBN and ISSN conversion and GS1 application identifiers.
Privacy
Nothing you generate or scan is stored. Camera frames are sent to this site only to be read and are discarded. There are no accounts on this site, ads or trackers.
How it works
- Generation and reading use rxing, an open-source Rust port of the ZXing barcode library, plus small encoders for MSI Plessey, Code 11, Pharmacode, Standard 2 of 5, POSTNET and PLANET.
- Every generated format is tested by reading it back with the same reader.
- No product database: a UPC tells you who issued the number and whether it is valid, not what the product is.
